KP Police to Establish Special Combat Unit for Anti-Terror Operations
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have approved the formation of a Special Combat Unit (SCU) to strengthen counter-terrorism operations across the province.
According to an official statement from the office of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, the new unit will consist of specially selected personnel trained for intelligence-based targeted operations.
Selection and Structure of the Unit
The force will include around 400 personnel chosen from the police elite force. Candidates will undergo rigorous medical, psychological, and physical assessments before selection.
Once formed, the unit will operate in structured companies of 45 personnel each, deployed in sensitive areas for focused operational duties.
Deployment and Training Plan
Each deployment cycle will last 90 days, during which personnel will take part in joint operations under the command of district police officers or Counter Terrorism Department officials.
After completing their field deployment, members will undergo a 30-day refresher training program at the Elite Police Training Centre in Nowshera to further enhance their skills and share operational experience.
Advanced Training and Equipment
Officials said the SCU will be trained in modern combat techniques, including advanced weapons handling, drone operations, sniper skills, and close-quarters combat.
Authorities believe the unit will strengthen response capabilities and improve coordination in high-risk operations.
Focus on Security and Stability
The Inspector General of Police said the establishment of the SCU marks a major step forward in improving operational effectiveness against militancy.
He added that ensuring public safety and eliminating terrorism from the province remains the top priority of the police force.
