Alexandra Eala Reaches Berlin Open Semi-Finals with Straight-Sets Victory
Alexandra Eala continued her impressive run at the 2026 Berlin Open by defeating Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-4 on Friday to secure a place in the semi-finals of the WTA 500 tournament.
The Filipino tennis star delivered another confident performance on the grass courts in Berlin, building on her strong form after an earlier victory over world No. 2 Elena Rybakina.
Competing in her first career meeting against Svitolina, Eala made a strong start to the match, taking an early lead in the opening set. Although the experienced Ukrainian fought back to reduce the deficit, Eala maintained control and claimed the first set 6-3.
The 21-year-old continued her momentum in the second set, using effective serving and consistent baseline play to keep the advantage. Svitolina briefly threatened a comeback late in the match, but Eala remained composed and successfully served out the contest to complete a straight-sets victory.
Eala’s performance highlighted her growing confidence on grass courts this season. Earlier this month, she captured the WTA 125 title in Birmingham and has continued to build momentum ahead of the summer’s major tournaments.
Following her latest win, Eala advances to the semi-finals of a WTA 500 event for the first time in her career, marking another important milestone in her development on the professional tour.
With Wimbledon scheduled to begin later this month, the young Filipina enters the tournament in excellent form and with growing confidence after a series of strong performances on grass.
