Aaron Brown Secures 13th National Sprint Title Ahead of Commonwealth Games

Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown continued his impressive career by winning the men’s 200-meter title at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.

The 34-year-old crossed the finish line in 20.33 seconds to claim his 13th national sprint championship. The victory comes as Brown prepares for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, where he aims to add another major achievement to his resume.

Speaking after the race, Brown described the win as a meaningful moment, especially as it was witnessed by his family, including his father and children.

Brown finished ahead of Eliezer Adjibi, who placed second with a time of 20.37 seconds, while Brendon Rodney secured third place in 20.60 seconds.

The experienced sprinter had already earned a silver medal in the 100-meter event earlier in the championships, finishing behind fellow Canadian Andre De Grasse.

With more than a decade of success at the national level, Brown reflected on the significance of continuing to compete at a high standard. His latest title comes 13 years after he first captured a Canadian sprint championship.

Attention now shifts to the Commonwealth Games, where Brown hopes to build on his previous success and challenge for a podium finish.

In the women’s 200-meter final, Audrey Leduc completed a sprint double for the third consecutive year by winning in 22.38 seconds. Marie-Éloïse Leclair finished second in 22.87 seconds, while Alyssa Marsh claimed third place with a time of 22.95 seconds.

The Canadian Championships served as an important preparation event for athletes targeting international competitions later this season.
