Corey Heim Earns First NASCAR Cup Series Victory at San Diego Street Race
Corey Heim captured his first NASCAR Cup Series victory on Sunday after an impressive performance in the inaugural race held on the streets of Coronado Island near San Diego, California.
The 23-year-old driver overcame early challenges during the event, including contact with the wall and tire wear issues, to secure a memorable win in just his 13th Cup Series start.
Driving the No. 67 Toyota, Heim steadily improved throughout the race and remained in contention before making a decisive move in the closing laps. He took the lead from teammate Tyler Reddick and held his position to the finish, leading the final three laps.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Heim, who won the NASCAR Truck Series championship in 2024 and is set to compete full-time in the Cup Series next season with 23XI Racing.
Following the race, Heim said he remained focused despite the early setbacks and relied on his confidence and preparation to stay competitive on the challenging 16-turn, 3.4-mile street circuit.
Tyler Reddick finished second after leading late in the race, while Heim’s strong finish highlighted his growing reputation as one of NASCAR’s promising young talents.
The inaugural San Diego event provided fans with an exciting street-racing spectacle and delivered a breakthrough moment for Heim as he celebrated the biggest victory of his NASCAR career so far.
