PMD Forecasts Week-Long Monsoon Rains Across Several Parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread monsoon rainfall across several regions of the country during the first week of July as a new weather system approaches.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts of Pakistan from the evening or night of June 30. At the same time, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are already affecting eastern and central areas, while additional moisture from the Bay of Bengal is likely to reach northern regions from July 2.

Rain Expected in Kashmir

Scattered rain, windstorms and thunderstorms are expected across several districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 1 to July 6.

Areas likely to receive rainfall include:

  • Muzaffarabad
  • Neelum Valley
  • Rawalakot
  • Poonch
  • Bagh
  • Haveli
  • Hattian
  • Sudhanoti
  • Kotli
  • Bhimber
  • Mirpur

Some locations may also experience heavy rainfall.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forecast

Many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive intermittent rain, thunderstorms and windstorms between July 1 and July 5.

The forecast includes:

  • Peshawar
  • Mardan
  • Swat
  • Chitral
  • Dir
  • Abbottabad
  • Mansehra
  • Haripur
  • Kohat
  • Bannu
  • Dera Ismail Khan
  • Nowshera
  • Charsadda
  • Swabi
  • Shangla
  • Malakand
  • Kurram
  • Bajaur
  • Mohmand
  • Khyber
  • Orakzai
  • Tank
  • Lakki Marwat
  • Waziristan

Isolated heavy downpours are also possible.

Punjab to Receive Widespread Rain

The PMD predicts rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across northern and central Punjab from July 1 to July 6, while southern districts are expected to receive rainfall mainly between July 3 and July 5.

  • Rawalpindi
  • Murree
  • Attock
  • Chakwal
  • Jhelum
  • Gujrat
  • Gujranwala
  • Lahore
  • Sheikhupura
  • Sialkot
  • Narowal
  • Faisalabad
  • Hafizabad
  • Sargodha

Southern Punjab districts expected to receive rain include:

  • Multan
  • Khanewal
  • Lodhran
  • Bahawalpur
  • Bahawalnagar
  • Dera Ghazi Khan
  • Muzaffargarh
  • Rajanpur
  • Okara
  • Kasur
  • Pakpattan
  • Jhang
  • Bhakkar
  • Layyah
  • Mianwali

Rainfall in Gilgit-Baltistan

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast in several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan from July 1 to July 5, including:

  • Gilgit
  • Skardu
  • Hunza
  • Diamer
  • Astore
  • Ghizer
  • Ghanche
  • Shigar

Balochistan and Sindh

In Balochistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected from July 1 to July 4 in:

  • Zhob
  • Sherani
  • Kohlu
  • Harnai
  • Sibi
  • Barkhan
  • Dera Bugti
  • Naseerabad

Meanwhile, parts of Sindh are likely to receive rain on July 3 and 4, including:

  • Sukkur
  • Larkana
  • Dadu
  • Jacobabad
  • Shaheed Benazirabad
  • Kashmore
  • Shikarpur
  • Ghotki
  • Khairpur
  • Qambar Shahdadkot
  • Naushahro Feroze
