Belgium produced one of the most dramatic comebacks of the FIFA World Cup, recovering from a two-goal deficit to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time and secure a place in the Round of 16.

Youri Tielemans scored the decisive penalty deep into extra time after Romelu Lukaku inspired Belgium’s late fightback in an unforgettable knockout encounter.

Senegal made an impressive start and took the lead in the first half through Habib Diarra, who reacted quickest to score after Ismaila Sarr’s header struck the post.

Belgium searched for an equalizer before halftime, but Senegal goalkeeper Mory Diaw made several important saves to preserve his side’s advantage.

Senegal doubled its lead early in the second half when Ismaila Sarr controlled a long pass before finishing confidently past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Facing elimination, Belgium introduced experienced striker Romelu Lukaku from the bench, and the substitution changed the momentum of the match.

Lukaku pulled a goal back in the 86th minute by finishing a cross from Thomas Meunier, giving Belgium renewed hope.

Just three minutes later, Belgium found the equalizer as Tielemans headed into the net after a dangerous delivery into the penalty area created confusion in Senegal’s defense.

With the score level at 2-2, the match moved into extra time. Both teams created opportunities, but neither could find a winner until the closing moments.

In the 125th minute, Belgium was awarded a penalty following a VAR review. Tielemans stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to complete a remarkable comeback and seal a 3-2 victory.

The win sends Belgium into the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, where it will face the United States, while Senegal exits the tournament after a spirited performance.
