JAAC Sets July 14 Deadline, Warns of Fresh March Toward Muzaffarabad
The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which has been declared a banned organization by authorities, has announced that it may resume its planned march toward Muzaffarabad if its demands are not addressed by July 14.
Speaking during a sit-in at Eidgah, a JAAC representative said the group would review the situation after the deadline and announce its next course of action if no progress is made.
Deadline for Demands
According to the group’s statement, the planned march could begin on July 15 if its charter of demands remains unresolved.
The representative also called on residents across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to stay informed about future announcements. In addition, national and international media organizations, political parties, and human rights groups were urged to observe developments related to the planned protest.
The sit-ins that began in June have now continued for about one month at several locations around Rawalakot.
Interim Organizational Changes
JAAC also announced temporary organizational changes following the reported arrest of several of its senior members.
According to the group, an interim leadership team has been appointed to oversee activities in the Muzaffarabad division until further notice.
Two People Reported Killed Near Rawalakot
Separately, local officials said at least two people were killed and several others were injured during an exchange of fire near Rawalakot.
According to the district administration, security personnel were escorting a convoy carrying food supplies when they encountered road blockades on the Bagh-Rawalakot route.
Officials said roads had been obstructed with trees and large rocks, affecting the transportation of essential goods. During efforts to clear the route, security personnel reportedly came under fire, leading to an exchange in which casualties occurred.
Authorities said the food convoy later reached Rawalakot safely after the road was reopened for traffic.
Investigation Continues
Officials confirmed two fatalities and said reports circulating on social media regarding additional deaths were still being verified.
Law enforcement personnel remained in the area for several hours to facilitate the movement of civilian traffic before the operation concluded.
The situation remains under close observation, and authorities have not announced any further developments regarding the planned protest or security arrangements.
