Shimron Hetmyer Stars as West Indies Win Final ODI, New Zealand Clinch Series 3-2

BRIDGETOWN: Shimron Hetmyer produced a calm and match-winning unbeaten innings of 69 runs as the West Indies defeated New Zealand by two wickets in the fifth and final One-Day International at Kensington Oval on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, New Zealand secured the five-match ODI series 3-2 after winning the second, third, and fourth matches.
Hetmyer Anchors Successful Chase
Chasing a target of 269, the West Indies reached 269/8 in 47.3 overs, finishing the match with 15 balls to spare.
Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 69 and played a crucial role in the chase, adding a valuable 95-run partnership with Sherfane Rutherford, who contributed 61 runs.
Earlier, captain Shai Hope (39) and Keacy Carty (20) provided a solid platform with a steady partnership before the middle order took control.
Late Drama in the Chase
The West Indies appeared to be in command before New Zealand fought back with quick wickets.
Jacob Duffy dismissed Matthew Forde and Alzarri Joseph in the same over, briefly raising hopes of a dramatic comeback.
However, Hetmyer kept his composure, striking two important sixes in the closing stages to guide his team across the finish line.
After the match, Hetmyer said his only focus was helping the team complete the chase rather than reaching a personal milestone.
New Zealand Posts Competitive Total
Earlier, New Zealand scored 268/9 in 50 overs after useful contributions from several batters.
