China’s FAMSUN Proposes Modern Grain Storage Project for Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed a proposal by Chinese agricultural technology company FAMSUN to help modernize Pakistan’s grain storage infrastructure, describing the initiative as a step toward improving food security and supporting the country’s agricultural development.
During a meeting with a delegation led by FAMSUN Chief Executive Officer Jack Chen, the prime minister said cooperation with Chinese companies could help introduce modern technologies, strengthen grain storage systems, and create opportunities for technology transfer and workforce development.
He also emphasized the importance of training Pakistani professionals so that local expertise grows alongside foreign investment and technology partnerships.
Proposal to Upgrade Grain Storage
According to a briefing presented during the meeting, FAMSUN has proposed upgrading Pakistan’s existing grain storage facilities into modern silo systems equipped with advanced storage technology.
The company also plans to establish a demonstration center in Pakistan to showcase environmentally friendly green silo technology and support the development of modern grain storage solutions.
The proposed project aims to:
- Improve grain storage efficiency
- Reduce post-harvest losses
- Enhance grain preservation
- Strengthen Pakistan’s food security
Modern storage systems can help minimize crop losses caused by moisture, pests, and outdated storage methods, which affect a significant portion of stored agricultural produce each year.
Focus on Technology Transfer
Jack Chen said FAMSUN is committed to supporting Pakistan through modern storage solutions, technical cooperation, and training programs.
He noted that discussions on the project gained momentum following his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the premier’s recent visit to China.
Memorandum of Understanding Signed
Officials at the meeting confirmed that FAMSUN and the Green Pakistan Initiative have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in agriculture and food security.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries Haroon Akhtar.
FAMSUN is a global provider of agricultural engineering, grain storage, animal feed, and food processing solutions, with operations in multiple countries. The proposed collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s broader efforts to attract investment in agriculture, improve post-harvest infrastructure, and support long-term growth in the sector.
