Construction of Multan–Lodhran Dual Carriageway to Begin Next Month
MULTAN: The federal government has approved the long-awaited dualization of the Multan–Lodhran Road, with construction work expected to begin next month.
The infrastructure project was approved by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan following a request from Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Rs4.6 Billion Project Approved
The 62-kilometre road upgrade is estimated to cost Rs4.6 billion and will be financed through the Road Maintenance Account (RMA).
Officials expect the project to be completed within one year, providing improved road infrastructure for thousands of daily commuters and transport operators.
Focus on Safer and Faster Travel
As part of the development plan, approximately 44.8 kilometres of the existing roadway will be elevated to ensure both carriageways remain at the same level.
Authorities say the improvements will help:

- Support smoother transportation between Multan and Lodhran
Relief for Daily Commuters
The Multan–Lodhran Road has long required major rehabilitation due to its deteriorating condition, which has created challenges for residents, commercial transport and regular travelers.
Officials believe the dual carriageway project will significantly improve driving conditions and reduce traffic congestion along this important regional route.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani welcomed the approval, describing the project as an important development initiative for the region.
According to officials, the required funds have already been released, allowing construction equipment and machinery to be mobilized in the coming weeks.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve transportation efficiency and provide safer travel for motorists across South Punjab.
