Nurse Booked After Newborn Girl Injured During Treatment at Rawalpindi Hospital

A police case has been registered against a nurse after a 23-day-old baby girl reportedly lost her right thumb during medical treatment at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi.

The incident has prompted both a police investigation and an internal hospital inquiry to determine how the injury occurred.

Family Raises Concern After Hospital Visit

According to officials, the baby’s father noticed the injury while visiting the nursery ward. After questioning hospital staff, he was reportedly informed that the child’s thumb had been accidentally severed during a medical procedure.

The family later filed a formal complaint, leading New Town Police to register a case and begin an investigation into the incident.

Hospital Orders Internal Inquiry

Following the complaint, Holy Family Hospital established an internal inquiry committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.

The committee is expected to review medical records, staff statements, and hospital procedures to determine whether any negligence was involved.

Nurse Appears Before Inquiry Committee

Hospital sources said the nurse named in the case appeared before the inquiry committee and apologized over the incident.

The baby’s father stated that he had accepted the apology and personally forgiven the nurse. However, authorities confirmed that the police investigation will continue in accordance with legal procedures.

Investigation Continues

Officials are collecting evidence and recording statements as part of the ongoing investigation. The findings of both the police inquiry and the hospital’s internal review will determine whether any further legal or administrative action is required.

The case has drawn public attention and renewed discussions about patient safety and quality of care in public healthcare facilities.
