Lahore Qalandars Announce Squad Update for Global Super League 2026

Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

Lahore Qalandars have confirmed a change to their squad for the Global Super League (GSL) 2026, with Pakistan batter Abdullah Shafique leaving the team after receiving a call-up to Pakistan’s Test squad for the ongoing series against the West Indies.

The franchise announced that Shafique has departed for national duty, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shamim Hossain has joined the squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Shafique had been representing Lahore Qalandars in the 2026 Global Super League, which is taking place from July 23 to August 1 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, Guyana.

His final appearance for the Qalandars came against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 26, where he scored 21 runs off 13 balls. In that match, Guyana Amazon Warriors successfully defended a total of 164, bowling Lahore Qalandars out for 111 to secure a 53-run victory.

Following the match, Shafique departed Guyana to join Pakistan’s Test squad in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selected Shafique as a replacement for opening batter Abdullah Fazal, who was ruled out of the West Indies Test series after sustaining a lower-back injury during a training session at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on July 23. The injury will also keep Fazal out of Pakistan’s upcoming Test tour of England.

Pakistan’s two-match Test series against the West Indies is scheduled to run from July 25 to August 6. After the Caribbean tour, the national team will travel to England for a three-match Test series, which is set to be played from August 19 to September 13.

Lahore Qalandars will continue their Global Super League campaign with their updated squad as they aim to progress further in the tournament.
