Spain Held to 0-0 Draw by Cape Verde in World Cup Group H Opener
Spain began their Group H campaign with a 0-0 draw against World Cup debutants Cape Verde in Atlanta on Monday.
Despite dominating possession for large periods of the match, Spain were unable to find a breakthrough against a well-organised Cape Verde side that defended strongly throughout the game.
The European side created several chances and maintained pressure on the opposition, but could not convert their opportunities into goals. Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha played a key role in keeping the score level with a number of important saves.
Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was introduced during the match, but Spain still struggled to break down Cape Verde’s defensive structure.
For Cape Verde, the result marked a significant moment in their World Cup history as they earned a point in their first-ever match at the tournament. The team, making its debut at the finals, showed discipline and resilience to secure a clean sheet against one of the competition’s favourites.
