ICC Announces Host Venues for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup

JOHANNESBURG: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the host venues for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The announcement was made during a launch event in Johannesburg, confirming 12 venues across three African nations for one of cricket’s biggest global tournaments.

Cricket World Cup Returns to Africa After 24 Years

The 2027 edition will mark the return of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to Africa for the first time since 2003, when South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya jointly hosted the tournament.

This edition will feature 14 international teams competing under the theme “Three Nations, One Heartbeat,” celebrating the shared culture, diversity, and passion for cricket across the host countries.

South Africa (8 Venues)

  • Wanderers Stadium – Johannesburg
  • SuperSport Park – Centurion
  • Newlands Cricket Ground – Cape Town
  • Kingsmead Cricket Ground – Durban
  • St George’s Park – Gqeberha
  • Mangaung Oval – Bloemfontein
  • Boland Park – Paarl
  • Buffalo Park – KuGompo City

Zimbabwe (3 Venues)

  • Harare Sports Club – Harare
  • Queens Sports Club – Bulawayo
  • Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium – Victoria Falls

Namibia (1 Venue)

  • Namibia Cricket Ground – Windhoek

Tournament Format

The 2027 Cricket World Cup will feature 57 matches under an updated competition format.

  • A qualifying Super Series involving the teams ranked 12th to 14th will determine the final team for the main tournament.
  • The remaining 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six for the opening round.
  • The top teams will then advance to the Super Seven stage before the tournament concludes with the semi-finals and final.

The new format aims to create a more competitive tournament while providing teams with additional opportunities to qualify for the knockout stages.

ICC Welcomes Historic Return

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the announcement as an important milestone in preparations for the tournament.

He said the return of the Cricket World Cup to Africa after more than two decades is a significant moment for the sport and expressed confidence that the three host nations will deliver a memorable event for players and fans.

ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta added that the tournament will celebrate Africa’s sporting culture while helping promote cricket across the region and inspiring future generations.

Cricket fans can now register their interest through the ICC to receive updates on ticket sales, match schedules, and other tournament announcements as preparations continue.

The 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is expected to bring together the world’s leading cricket nations for another exciting edition of the 50-over tournament.
