Sharjeel Memon Briefs Bilawal on Sindh Transport Projects
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House and provided an update on major public transport projects in the province.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, Memon briefed Bilawal on the progress of ongoing transport projects and initiatives aimed at improving public transportation facilities across Sindh.
Update on Karachi’s Red Line Project
The meeting came shortly after Memon inaugurated the Mosamiyat Flyover, a component of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi.
Memon said work on University Road had entered its final stages and that the remaining work was expected to be completed within two months. He also said construction of Red Line stations and other parts of the BRT corridor was continuing.
The minister had previously acknowledged delays in the project and said rising costs of construction materials, fuel and the dollar had created challenges during its implementation.
Sindh Transport Projects
The Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department is working on several public transportation initiatives, including BRT-related projects and bus services.
Information presented to the Sindh Assembly earlier this year showed that the province was also pursuing projects involving bus routes, bus lay-bys, traffic management and other transport infrastructure in Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities.
The Sindh government’s transport department says its broader mass-transit approach includes infrastructure, bus operations, automated fare collection, fleet management and command-and-control systems.
The latest meeting provided an opportunity for the provincial transport minister to update the PPP chairman on the implementation of these projects and related initiatives in Sindh.
