Sindh Government Dismisses Eight Officials Over Alleged Wheat Irregularities Worth Rs5.12 Billion
KARACHI: The Sindh Food Department has dismissed eight officials from government service after disciplinary proceedings related to alleged irregularities involving government wheat stocks.
According to official sources, the department has also ordered the recovery of more than Rs5.12 billion from the officials found responsible under the Sindh Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 1973.
Officials Dismissed Following Departmental Inquiry
The dismissed officials include:
- District Food Controller Muhammad Munawar Arain
- Food Supervisors Muhammad Hassan and Muhammad Mithal Magsi
- Food Inspectors Muhammad Abbas Memon, Zaheer Abbas Shar, Imran Ali Magsi, Qurban Ali Magsi, and Ghulam Mustafa Mirani
Officials said the disciplinary action followed the completion of departmental investigations into the cases.
Alleged Irregularities in Wheat Stocks
According to the Food Department, the cases involve allegations related to:
- Wheat stock shortages
- Unauthorized release of government wheat
- Irregular transportation
- Adulteration of wheat stocks
- Improper storage and deterioration of wheat
The reported incidents are linked to wheat procurement and storage operations in Dadu, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Kashmore-Kandhkot, and Shikarpur districts.
Government Emphasizes Accountability
Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman said government wheat is an important public resource that plays a key role in maintaining food security and supporting stable flour prices.
He stated that any official found involved in the misuse, unauthorized disposal, or mismanagement of government wheat would face strict action in accordance with the law, including dismissal, financial recovery, and legal proceedings where applicable.
The minister added that the department will continue strengthening monitoring, stock verification, and transparent management of wheat reserves across the province.
Recovery Orders Issued
According to officials, recovery amounts have been assigned in several cases, including:
- Zaheer Abbas Shar: More than Rs2 billion
- Muhammad Abbas Memon: Over Rs1 billion
- Muhammad Mithal Magsi: Rs849.1 million
- Muhammad Hassan: Rs700.4 million
- Imran Ali Magsi: Rs310.8 million
- Qurban Ali Magsi: Rs67.5 million
- Muhammad Munawar Arain: Rs56.5 million in connection with the alleged unauthorized release of wheat.
Officials said the recovery amount related to Ghulam Mustafa Mirani will be determined separately following completion of the remaining assessment.
