Lando Norris Wins Dutch Grand Prix as Verstappen Crashes

McLaren driver Lando Norris claimed victory at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on Sunday, securing consecutive Formula One wins after his triumph in Hungary before the summer break.
Norris started the race from pole position and finished 11.54 seconds ahead of Kimi Antonelli, while Mercedes driver George Russell completed the podium in third place.
Norris Wins a Closely Contested Race
The race featured an intense battle between Norris, Antonelli and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli initially moved ahead of Norris after the race restarted, but Norris regained the lead on lap 54 with a well-timed overtaking move. He then maintained his advantage until the finish.
The victory also gave McLaren a notable run of success at Zandvoort, following Oscar Piastri’s win last year and Norris’s victory the previous season.
“It was probably one of my better wins,” Norris said after the race, praising his team and the car’s pace.
Verstappen Escapes Serious Injury After Crash
Local favourite Max Verstappen was involved in an incident on the opening lap.
At the final corner of the first lap, Verstappen lost control of his Red Bull and hit the barriers before his car moved across the track. Several drivers had to take evasive action.
Verstappen quickly informed his team that he was unharmed and was able to walk away from the car.
The incident resulted in a race stoppage, with the restart taking place after a delay of more than 30 minutes.
Russell Completes the Podium
George Russell secured third place after successfully defending his position against a late challenge from Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished fifth, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri crossed the line in sixth.
Antonelli remains at the top of the championship standings with a 59-point advantage over Hamilton and Russell. However, he is set to receive a 10-place grid penalty at the next race in Monza following an engine change.
McLaren Closing the Gap
Antonelli acknowledged that McLaren has made significant progress with recent car upgrades.
The Italian driver said his car lacked the desired feel during the race, while the McLaren package appeared increasingly competitive.
McLaren’s recent performances suggest the championship battle could become even more competitive as the season continues.
Dutch Grand Prix Comes to an End
The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix was the final edition scheduled to take place at Zandvoort after organizers decided to end the event for financial reasons.
Drivers and fans expressed disappointment at the departure of the circuit from the Formula One calendar.
Zandvoort is known for its distinctive layout and steeply banked corners, while the event has also become famous for its large crowds and enthusiastic Dutch supporters.
Norris’s victory provided a memorable conclusion to the Dutch Grand Prix, while the Formula One championship now moves on to the next stage of the season.
