41 PTI Workers Arrested in Rawalpindi, Says District Leader

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) district president Chaudhry Ameer Afzal has said that police have arrested 41 party workers and activists in Rawalpindi over the past two days.

According to the PTI district leader, the detained workers were shifted to Bhakkar following their arrests.

Despite the arrests, Afzal said the party would continue preparations to mobilise supporters for the planned September 27 protest in Islamabad.

He said PTI’s Rawalpindi chapter had received instructions from the party leadership to ensure that workers reached Islamabad ahead of the demonstration.

According to Afzal, arrangements have been completed for Rawalpindi workers to join the main procession travelling from Peshawar after it reaches Islamabad.

The PTI leader did not provide further details about the cases or charges, if any, registered against the detained workers.

The reported arrests come as PTI supporters in several parts of the country prepare for the party’s planned Islamabad protest.
