Eight Dead After US Air Force B-52 Aircraft Incident at California Base

Eight people lost their lives after a U.S. Air Force B-52 aircraft was involved in an incident during takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base in California on Monday, according to Air Force officials.

The aircraft was conducting a routine test flight when the incident occurred shortly after departure from the runway. Authorities confirmed that all eight individuals on board were killed.

Officials said the crew included military personnel, government civilians, and contractors. Boeing also confirmed that two of its employees were among those on board.

The flight was reportedly connected to a radar modernization program. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined, and an official investigation is underway.

Air Force representatives stated that the identities of those who died have not been released as families are still being notified.

Following the incident, operations at Edwards Air Force Base were temporarily suspended due to runway damage. Officials said the suspension would remain in effect while assessments and recovery efforts continue.

Located in California’s Mojave Desert, Edwards Air Force Base is one of the United States Air Force’s primary flight-testing facilities and has played a significant role in aviation research and development for decades.

The aircraft involved was a B-52 Stratofortress assigned to the 412th Test Wing. The B-52 has been in service for many years and continues to be used for a variety of operational and testing missions.
