Punjab Approves Electric Buses for 25 Government Colleges

The Punjab government has approved a plan to provide electric buses to 25 government colleges across the province during the ongoing financial year.

The decision has been taken by the Punjab Higher Education Department as part of efforts to improve transportation facilities at public-sector colleges while reducing their operational expenses.

According to the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges, several government colleges have been struggling to cover rising fuel costs within their existing budgets.

Electric Buses to Reduce College Transport Costs

Under the new initiative, selected colleges will receive electric buses as part of the provincial government’s environment-friendly transport policy.

The shift to electric buses is expected to provide students and staff with improved transport facilities while helping colleges reduce their recurring expenditure on fuel.

Officials believe the move could also lower transportation-related operating costs over the longer term.

35 Colleges Received Buses Last Year

The Punjab government had provided buses to 35 government colleges last year under a similar initiative.

Director Public Instruction Colleges Dr. Syed Ansar Azhar said the introduction of electric buses could help government colleges save millions of rupees every year.

The latest allocation is expected to further expand transport facilities at public colleges and reduce their dependence on conventional fuel-powered buses.
