Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Leave Nine Dead Despite Ceasefire Efforts

The Lebanese military said that an airstrike targeting a vehicle on a road between Nabatiyeh and Marjayoun killed a brigadier general, a captain, and another soldier. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

In a separate incident, local media reported that six people were killed and four others injured following an airstrike in the village of Saksakiyah.

The Lebanese army condemned the attacks, stating that continued military actions could undermine efforts aimed at restoring stability and supporting ceasefire arrangements in the region.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed carrying out a strike on a vehicle in southern Lebanon. In a statement, it said the vehicle was displaying suspicious activity near Israeli forces and that security concerns had prompted the operation. The military added that the incident remains under review.

The developments come only days after renewed efforts to maintain a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. Regional and international stakeholders continue to call for restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.

The latest incidents have raised concerns about the fragile security situation along the Lebanon-Israel border, where tensions have persisted despite ongoing ceasefire initiatives.
