Pakistan Reaffirms Kashmir Position at United Nations

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has reiterated its position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute during a session of the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing that the issue remains on the agenda of the UN Security Council and should be resolved in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

The statement came during a diplomatic exchange at the UN after representatives from Pakistan and India presented their respective views on the status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on behalf of Pakistan, Political Coordinator Gul Qaiser Sarwani said the dispute continues to be recognized internationally and remains an unresolved issue under the framework of the United Nations. He stressed that a peaceful and lasting solution should take into account relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of the region.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, highlighted the significance of long-standing international disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, during discussions on the annual report of the UN Security Council.

According to Ambassador Asim, the Security Council continued to receive communications related to the India-Pakistan issue throughout 2025 and also held consultations on the matter during the year. He noted that the issue remains an important subject of international attention.

Pakistan maintained that lasting peace and stability in South Asia are linked to a peaceful resolution of outstanding disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and internationally recognized mechanisms.

During his remarks, Ambassador Asim also addressed the situation in Palestine, calling for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for a peaceful resolution based on international law.

The Pakistani envoy further emphasized the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation, enhancing the effectiveness of UN peace operations, and promoting a more representative and accountable international system to address global challenges.

The discussion reflects the continued focus of UN member states on regional peace, conflict resolution, and international cooperation through diplomatic channels.
