Actor and producer Ashley Tisdale is developing a new comedy series for Netflix that draws inspiration from her personal experiences with motherhood and social dynamics among parenting groups.

According to entertainment industry reports, the half-hour comedy, titled “Toxic Moms,” is being developed with writer Sabrina Jalees and actress-writer Ali Wong.

Story Inspired by Modern Motherhood

The series follows a sleep-deprived new mother who becomes involved with an exclusive group of affluent mothers, only to discover that appearances can be misleading.

The show’s central theme explores the challenges of finding community and belonging during the early stages of parenthood.

Ashley Tisdale is expected to star in the series while also serving as an executive producer alongside Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong.

Based on a Personal Essay

The project follows Tisdale’s widely discussed essay published earlier this year, in which she reflected on her experience navigating friendships within a parenting group and the emotional challenges of feeling excluded.

The essay generated significant online discussion, with social media users speculating about the identities of the people involved. However, Tisdale did not identify any individuals in her article.

Her representatives later clarified that several celebrities whose names were circulating online were not the subjects of the story.

Celebrities Address Online Speculation

Despite the clarification, online speculation linked several well-known personalities, including Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.

The three celebrities later responded publicly to the rumors.

Mandy Moore expressed disappointment that the discussion reinforced stereotypes suggesting women cannot support one another.

Hilary Duff described the parenting group as positive and said the timing of the essay prompted mixed feelings.

Meghan Trainor revealed that Ashley Tisdale contacted her privately after the online speculation and apologized for her name becoming part of the conversation.

Netflix Series in Development

“Toxic Moms” remains in development, and Netflix has not yet announced a release date.

The series is expected to blend comedy with relatable themes surrounding parenthood, friendship, and the search for connection during a life-changing stage for many families.
