PM Shehbaz Sharif Attends Funeral Ceremony of Iran’s Late Supreme Leader in Tehran

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on Friday, where they offered condolences on behalf of Pakistan.

The Pakistani delegation paid respects during the official ceremony and expressed sympathy with the leadership and people of Iran following the passing of the country’s longtime leader.

Pakistan Expresses Condolences

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Ali Khamenei’s leadership and acknowledged his role in guiding Iran over several decades.

The prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s condolences to Iran’s new leadership, including Mojtaba Khamenei and Masoud Pezeshkian, while expressing solidarity with the Iranian people during the period of mourning.

High-Level Pakistani Delegation

The prime minister was accompanied by a senior delegation that included:

  • Ishaq Dar
  • Sardar Ayaz Sadiq
  • Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani
  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
  • Murad Ali Shah
  • Attaullah Tarar

Members of Parliament also attended the ceremony.

Meeting With Iranian Officials

Separately, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the visit.

The meeting focused on conveying condolences and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Iran during the national mourning period.

Official Reception in Tehran

Upon arrival at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was received by Eskandar Momeni along with senior Pakistani and Iranian officials.

Following the funeral ceremony, the prime minister departed for an official visit to Türkiye as part of his regional engagements.

According to Iranian authorities, Ali Khamenei passed away earlier this year during the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Funeral ceremonies began in Tehran, while burial arrangements are scheduled to take place in Mashhad.
