Australia Move Closer to Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Finals with Win Over Pakistan

Report: Imran Sohail

Australia strengthened their position in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding victory over Pakistan, moving a step closer to securing a place in the semi-finals.

The six-time champions produced another impressive all-round performance, posting a competitive total before delivering a disciplined bowling display to seal a comfortable win in their Group 1 encounter at Headingley.

Experienced all-rounder Ellyse Perry starred for Australia with an outstanding innings of 71 runs from 48 balls. Her knock helped Australia recover from an early setback and build a strong platform for a challenging total.

Georgia Voll also made an important contribution, scoring 39 runs and sharing a valuable partnership with Perry. Late contributions from Annabel Sutherland and Nicola Carey added further momentum to the innings and ensured Australia finished strongly.

In response, Pakistan struggled to build partnerships against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack. Opener Muneeba Ali top-scored for her side with 32 runs, while the rest of the batting lineup found it difficult to keep pace with the required run rate.

Perry completed an excellent all-round performance by contributing with the ball, while Australia’s fielding and bowling unit maintained pressure throughout the innings.

The victory keeps Australia unbeaten in the tournament and places them in a strong position to qualify for the semi-finals. Their final group-stage match against India is expected to be one of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament and could play a major role in determining the final standings.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will look to finish their campaign on a positive note when they face the Netherlands in their final group match.

With the knockout stage approaching, Australia once again demonstrated why they remain one of the strongest contenders for the Women’s T20 World Cup title.
