Australia to Face Türkiye as Arda Güler Leads Side in World Cup Opener
Australia will take on Türkiye in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D clash in Vancouver, with both teams aiming to start their campaign on a strong note.
Türkiye will be led by young midfielder Arda Güler, who is expected to play a key role in the team’s attack. The match marks Türkiye’s return to the World Cup after more than two decades, following their last appearance in 2002.
Head coach Vincenzo Montella has highlighted the importance of composure and focus as his team prepares for a high-pressure opening fixture. Türkiye also includes several key players such as Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Kenan Yıldız in their squad.
Australia, meanwhile, enters the match with a mix of experienced players and emerging talent. The Socceroos reached the Round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup and will be aiming to build on that performance in this tournament.
Coach Tony Popovic has expressed confidence in his squad’s preparation, saying the team is ready to compete against strong opposition in Group D, which also includes the United States and Paraguay.
The match is expected to be closely contested as both teams look to secure early points in the group stage.
