Bangladesh PM to Visit Malaysia and China on First Foreign Trip

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will travel to Malaysia and China on his first official overseas visit since taking office, according to the foreign ministry.

The visit will begin in Malaysia on Sunday, followed by a trip to China the next day, reported state media BSS, citing officials.

During the China visit, discussions are expected to focus on trade, investment, and infrastructure cooperation. Officials said projects such as the long-delayed Teesta river development plan may also be part of the agenda.

The foreign ministry described the visit as an important step toward strengthening Bangladesh’s economic and diplomatic relations with key regional partners.

Malaysia, which hosts a large Bangladeshi workforce, is also expected to feature discussions on labour cooperation and employment opportunities.

Relations between Bangladesh and neighbouring India have remained sensitive in recent years following political changes in Dhaka, although ties have gradually improved under the current government.

Officials said the upcoming visits aim to further expand economic partnerships and regional cooperation.
