Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari Calls for Transparent AJK Elections, Seeks Inquiry Into Poll Process
MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for transparent elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging authorities to prioritize the national interest while expressing concerns over the electoral process.
Addressing a workers’ convention in Muzaffarabad, Bilawal thanked PPP supporters in Mirpur for their participation in the elections and said the party would continue to protect the public mandate.
Raises Concerns Over Election Process
Bilawal questioned the conduct of the first phase of the AJK elections, saying reports of incidents at multiple polling stations should be thoroughly reviewed. He stressed that all political parties should be able to participate in a fair and peaceful electoral process.
According to unofficial and provisional results, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) secured nine seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party won four of the 13 constituencies contested in the Mirpur division.
Calls for Independent Investigation
The PPP chairman urged the formation of an independent inquiry commission to examine complaints related to the election process. He said transparent investigations would help strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.
Bilawal also emphasized the importance of protecting voters’ rights and ensuring that future phases of the AJK elections are conducted peacefully and fairly.
Emphasizes Peaceful Democratic Process
During his address, Bilawal said political differences should be resolved through constitutional and democratic means. He called on all stakeholders to work toward peaceful elections and urged citizens to participate in the democratic process.
He also encouraged party workers to continue campaigning peacefully ahead of the remaining phases of the AJK elections, reaffirming the PPP’s commitment to democratic values and electoral participation.
