Blue Jays Edge Yankees 2-1 as Trey Yesavage Shines on the Mound

Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 2-1 on Wednesday night in a closely contested game highlighted by a strong pitching duel between young starters Trey Yesavage and Cam Schlittler.

Following a rain delay of more than two hours, both pitchers kept the game scoreless through six innings before Toronto broke through in the seventh.

The Blue Jays loaded the bases with no outs, and Andrés Giménez drew a lengthy walk after an 11-pitch at-bat to bring home the first run. Shortly afterward, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a sacrifice fly to extend Toronto’s lead to 2-0.

Trey Yesavage delivered an outstanding performance for Toronto, allowing just two hits while striking out eight batters over six scoreless innings. The 22-year-old rookie improved to 2-1 on the season and continued his impressive start after returning from a shoulder injury earlier this year.

Three of Yesavage’s strikeouts came against Aaron Judge, who struck out in all four of his at-bats during the game.

The Yankees attempted a late comeback in the ninth inning, scoring one run before Toronto closer Louis Varland secured the save by striking out Amed Rosario with a 99 mph fastball.
