Chenab River Remains at High Flood Level as Heavy Monsoon Rains Continue

Heavy monsoon rainfall continued across Azad Jammu and Kashmir and several parts of Punjab, keeping the Chenab River at high flood levels in multiple locations, according to official flood monitoring authorities.

The latest updates indicate that while water levels have decreased at some monitoring points, flooding conditions remain significant in other sections of the river.

Flood Situation Along the Chenab River

According to irrigation officials, the Chenab River has receded to medium flood level at Marala and Khanki.

However, the river continues to flow at a high flood level near Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge. Authorities expect water levels to gradually decline as the flow moves downstream toward Trimmu Headworks, provided rainfall does not intensify further.

Officials also noted that continued rainfall in Azad Jammu and Kashmir could lead to another rise in water levels.

PMD Warns of Rising River Flows

The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that widespread rainfall associated with strong monsoon currents and a western weather system may increase river flows through July 25.

According to the FFD:

• The Chenab River is at high flood level at Khanki and Qadirabad.
• It is at medium flood level at Marala.
• The Indus River at Tarbela and Chashma, the Kabul River at Nowshera, the Chenab River at Chiniot Bridge, and the Ravi River at Balloki are currently experiencing low flood levels.
• Other major rivers are flowing within normal limits.

Flash Flood and Urban Flooding Alerts

The FFD has also warned of the possibility of:

• Flash flooding in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan.
• Urban flooding in several cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, and Sahiwal.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay informed through official weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Rain Forecast for Multiple Provinces

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, over the next 24 hours in:

• Islamabad
• Azad Jammu and Kashmir
• Several districts of Punjab
• Large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
• Parts of Sindh, including Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot
• Areas of Balochistan, including Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Musakhel, Sherani, and Zhob

Authorities continue to monitor the evolving flood situation and have urged the public, especially those living near rivers and low-lying areas, to remain cautious during the ongoing monsoon spell.
