West Indies Defeat Pakistan by 90 Runs in First Test to Take Series Lead

The West Indies secured a convincing 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test of the two-match series, defeating the visitors on the fourth day at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
Chasing a target of 211 runs, Pakistan struggled against the West Indies pace attack and were bowled out for 120 in 40.2 overs. The defeat gives the hosts a 1-0 lead in the series ahead of the second and final Test.
Pakistan’s Batting Collapses Again
Pakistan’s batting lineup found it difficult to cope with the movement and bounce offered by the pitch. The team was reduced to 71 for 9, raising the possibility of one of their lowest Test totals against the West Indies.
Captain Babar Azam remained unbeaten with 58 runs, while Mohammad Abbas contributed 23 runs in a last-wicket partnership of 49 runs. However, the effort was not enough to prevent defeat.
Fast bowler Jayden Seales starred with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 20 runs and sealing the victory by dismissing Abbas.
West Indies Extend Their Advantage
Earlier in the day, the West Indies added valuable runs to their second innings before being dismissed for 181. Shamar Joseph played an aggressive knock of 38 runs from 27 balls, helping his team set a challenging target.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking 5 wickets for 22 runs.
Justin Greaves Named Player of the Match
All-rounder Justin Greaves was awarded the Player of the Match after an outstanding all-round performance. He finished with seven wickets in the match and praised his team’s disciplined bowling approach.
Greaves said the bowlers focused on maintaining consistent lines and lengths, taking inspiration from Pakistan’s bowling performance during the match.
Pakistan Faces Tough Challenge
The defeat continues Pakistan’s difficult run in Test cricket. It marks the team’s fourth consecutive Test loss, eighth straight away Test defeat, and 13th loss in their last 17 Test matches.
Captain Babar Azam acknowledged that the West Indies bowlers made full use of the conditions and admitted Pakistan failed to build meaningful partnerships during the chase.

West Indies captain Roston Chase praised the collective contribution from his players, saying the team’s success came from every member stepping up at important moments rather than relying on a few individuals.
Second Test Begins on Sunday
The second and final Test of the series will be played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, starting on Sunday. Pakistan will look to level the series, while the West Indies aim to complete a series victory on home soil.
