ECB Investigates Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson Over Alleged Nightclub Incident

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has launched an investigation into England captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson over an alleged breach of team protocols following the first Test against New Zealand.

According to the ECB, the two players were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning, where an incident reportedly took place. The governing body confirmed that it is seeking further information and has informed the Cricket Regulator.

The ECB stated that it is currently reviewing a potential breach of team rules and will provide further updates once the investigation is complete. An announcement regarding squad selection for the second Test is expected in due course.

The incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of England’s team discipline, following reports of off-field issues during their recent tour of Australia, where the side suffered a 4-1 Ashes series defeat earlier this year.

In response to earlier concerns about player conduct, a midnight curfew had been introduced for England players and staff. However, reports suggest the current investigation may involve issues beyond a curfew breach.

England recently began their Test series against New Zealand with a strong performance, securing a 115-run victory in the opening match to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The second Test is scheduled to take place at The Oval in London on June 17, where attention will now also focus on team selection and the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.

The ECB has not provided further details, stating that it will release additional information once the review process is complete.
