England Turns to Thomas Tuchel in Bid to End Long World Cup Drought
England’s national football team has appointed German coach Thomas Tuchel as part of its long-term plan to end a decades-long wait for a World Cup title.
The move comes as England continues its search for sustained success on the international stage, more than 60 years after winning the tournament in 1966.
Tuchel, a highly experienced manager with major club titles in several European leagues, was officially unveiled in 2024. His appointment drew significant public attention and sparked mixed reactions in parts of the British media and among football fans.
During his unveiling, Tuchel acknowledged the scrutiny surrounding his nationality, noting the unusual circumstances of an English team being led by a German coach.
Despite the debate, football authorities have emphasized his strong managerial record, including success in top European competitions with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
England has previously appointed foreign managers, including Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, as part of efforts to strengthen the national team’s performance on the global stage.
Supporters and analysts say the focus now is on building a competitive squad capable of challenging for major international trophies under Tuchel’s leadership.
As preparations continue for upcoming tournaments, England’s long-term goal remains unchanged: securing a second World Cup title.
