England Announce 16-Member Squad for ODI Tri-Series Against Pakistan and Sri Lanka
Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail
England have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with Harry Brook named as captain.
The squad includes the return of experienced players Adil Rashid and Sam Curran, while fast bowler Jofra Archer has been rested as part of England’s workload management plans.
England will also be without Jos Buttler, who has been ruled out of the tour after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s recent ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Three players could make their ODI debuts for England during the tournament. Mason Crane, James Coles and Henry Crocombe have been included in the squad and will be looking to earn their first international appearances in the format.
Rashid has returned to the team after recovering from a hand injury that kept him out of England’s recent ODI matches against Sri Lanka. Curran has also been recalled following his recovery from groin surgery in August.
Archer has been given a break after a busy period across different formats, including his participation in The Hundred. England are managing his workload ahead of their upcoming international commitments.
National selector Marcus North said the tri-series would give England another opportunity to assess its ODI squad against quality opposition in different playing conditions.
Mason Crane is also back in the England setup after a long gap. His last international appearance came during the final Test of the 2017-18 Ashes series. He has since produced consistent performances for Glamorgan across formats.
Sussex players James Coles and Henry Crocombe have also been included after previously being part of England’s white-ball squads earlier this summer.
Brendon McCullum will lead the coaching setup during the tour, with Jeetan Patel, Mike Yardy, David Saker and Carl Hopkinson assisting him.
Former England batter Kevin Pietersen will not be part of the coaching setup in Pakistan. He was appointed as a specialist white-ball mentor last month and worked with the team during the recent series against Sri Lanka. He is expected to rejoin England during the tour of Australia in November.
