Faisalabad to Launch Public Transport App With Real-Time Vehicle Tracking
The Faisalabad divisional administration has announced plans to introduce a digital public transport system featuring a mobile application with real-time vehicle tracking and an electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping network to improve urban transportation.
The initiative aims to make public transport more accessible, efficient, and convenient for commuters across the division.
One Platform for Public Transport Services
According to Commissioner Faisalabad and President of the Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS), Imran Hamid Sheikh, the upcoming Faisalabad Public Transport App will bring both government-operated and registered private transport services onto a single digital platform.
The system will cover public transport operating across the division’s four districts.
Real-Time Tracking and Route Planning
The app will allow passengers to:
- Track public transport vehicles in real time
- View the location of government buses, metro buses, electric buses, and registered urban Hiace vehicles
- Plan journeys using the most suitable routes
- Find transfer points between different transport services
- Check estimated vehicle arrival times
Officials say these features are designed to make daily commuting more convenient and predictable.
Free App With Digital Registration System
The Faisalabad Public Transport App will be available free of charge for users.
Authorities also plan to integrate the platform with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to enable digital registration of public transport vehicles, helping improve service management and record-keeping.
Transport Operator Registration to Begin Soon
Officials said the registration process for transport operators is expected to begin within 15 days to one month ahead of the app’s official launch.
This step will allow eligible public transport providers to join the digital platform before it becomes available to passengers.
A Step Toward Smarter Urban Transport
The divisional administration says the project is expected to become Faisalabad’s first integrated digital public transport platform.
Officials also believe it could become one of the first initiatives of its kind in Punjab and potentially across Pakistan, supporting the broader adoption of smart transportation solutions.
