Rawalpindi’s Major Infrastructure Projects Target Completion by June 2027
The Rawalpindi Division Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to completing several major infrastructure projects on schedule, with key road development schemes expected to be finished by June 2027.
During a review visit, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani directed the relevant departments to maintain construction quality while ensuring public safety, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season.
Commissioner Reviews Key Development Projects
The commissioner inspected progress on several major projects, including:
- Qasim Market Development Project
- Race Course Chowk Development Project
- 1,400mm Water Supply Pipeline on Syedpur Road being installed by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) under the Punjab Development Program
Officials briefed the commissioner on construction progress and the expected timelines for completion.
Projects Expected to Improve Traffic Flow
According to officials, the completed road projects are expected to significantly reduce congestion across Rawalpindi.
- The Qasim Market Development Project is expected to benefit approximately 182,000 vehicles daily.
- The Race Course Chowk Development Project is projected to improve traffic movement for nearly 250,000 vehicles each day.
Both projects are currently scheduled for completion by June 2027.
Departments Directed to Maintain Construction Pace
Commissioner Salman Ghani instructed all concerned departments to continue work according to the approved schedule.
He also emphasized the importance of close coordination among government agencies to resolve utility relocation and other technical issues without unnecessary delays.
Syedpur Road Water Supply Project Nears Completion
During his visit to the Syedpur Road water supply project, WASA Managing Director Azizullah Khan informed the commissioner that approximately 70% of the work has been completed.
The project is expected to be completed by August 20, 2026, and is designed to improve the supply of clean drinking water for residents in the area.
Focus on Public Safety During Monsoon
The commissioner instructed construction teams to minimize excavation work during the monsoon season wherever possible.
He also directed authorities to implement appropriate safety measures at construction sites, including:
- Clear warning signs
- Reflective markers
- Adequate lighting
- Effective traffic management arrangements
These measures are intended to help protect motorists and pedestrians while development work continues.
Infrastructure Development Continues
The ongoing projects form part of broader efforts to improve Rawalpindi’s road network and public utilities.
Officials say the completed schemes are expected to enhance traffic flow, strengthen urban infrastructure, and improve public services for residents across the city.
