Former Islamabad Police Chief Appointed DG NCCIA
Former Islamabad Police Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), according to sources.
Rizvi is expected to take charge of the agency following his transfer from Islamabad Police. He had been serving as the Inspector General of Islamabad Police since April 2024, overseeing policing, security and law-and-order matters in the federal capital.
Islamabad Police Gets New Chief
The appointment is part of a broader reshuffle involving policing and cybercrime-related responsibilities at the federal level.
Captain (Retd.) Sohail Chaudhry has been appointed to replace Ali Nasir Rizvi as the new Inspector General of Islamabad Police.
What Does NCCIA Do?
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency is Pakistan’s dedicated institution for dealing with cybercrime cases. The agency investigates a range of digital offences, including online fraud, cyber harassment, unauthorized access and data-related crimes.
Its responsibilities also include digital forensics, technical investigations and legal action against individuals involved in cyber offences.
The NCCIA was established as the country’s central agency for cybercrime investigations, replacing the cybercrime wing previously operated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The agency has offices in different parts of Pakistan and receives complaints related to cyber offences directly from citizens.
Ali Nasir Rizvi’s appointment comes as the government continues to reorganize its policing and cybercrime investigation structure, with the NCCIA expected to play an important role in addressing the growing number of digital crime cases.
