Government to Offer Free SMS Registration for Petrol Relief Scheme
The government has decided to make the SMS registration process for its petrol relief scheme free of charge, aiming to make it easier for eligible citizens to apply for financial assistance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued the directive during a high-level meeting held to review preparations for the PM Special Relief Scheme, which is designed to support low-income and middle-class citizens facing higher fuel costs.
The scheme is intended for owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Free SMS Registration
The prime minister directed the relevant authorities to ensure that applicants do not have to pay charges for the SMS required to register for the scheme.
He also called for a nationwide awareness campaign through print, television, digital platforms and social media so that eligible citizens are aware of the registration process and can benefit from the program.
Hundreds of Thousands of Registration Messages Received
Officials informed the meeting that the registration process had already attracted significant interest. More than 600,000 SMS messages had reportedly been received in the Islamabad region by Monday afternoon, with 42,933 applicants successfully registered.
Applicants only need to provide four basic details:
- CNIC number
- Vehicle registration number
- Province where the vehicle is registered
- Vehicle registration date
Petrol Relief to Begin Across Pakistan
The petrol relief program is scheduled to begin in Islamabad on September 15. Eligible motorists in other parts of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, are expected to receive the fuel subsidy from the night of September 16–17.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also instructed the Islamabad administration and volunteers across the country to assist eligible citizens with registration and other required formalities.
