Lahore Traffic Police Intensify Action Against Fake and ‘Applied For’ Number Plates
The City Traffic Police Lahore have stepped up enforcement against vehicles using fake, altered, or non-compliant number plates in an effort to strengthen traffic law enforcement and improve the effectiveness of the e-challan system.
According to officials, cases have been registered against 88 owners of motorcycles and luxury vehicles over the past two months for allegedly using fake or tampered number plates.
Thousands of Challans Issued
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore said the department issued 15,974 challans to vehicles and motorcycles operating without official registration plates or displaying “Applied For” number plates.
The traffic police also issued:
- 9,382 challans for fancy or non-standard number plates that did not comply with Excise Department specifications.
- 9,218 challans for number plates that were bent, damaged, covered, or otherwise altered.
Public Awareness Campaign
Alongside enforcement, traffic police conducted an awareness campaign, educating more than 50,000 vehicle and motorcycle owners about traffic regulations and the legal requirements for displaying standard registration plates.
Fines and Legal Action
Officials said motorists found violating the rules may face fines of:
- Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000 for car owners.
- Rs. 1,000 for motorcycle riders.
Police also warned that individuals using fake number plates may face legal proceedings under relevant laws.
Advice for Vehicle Owners
The CTO urged citizens to use their updated registration number after transferring vehicle ownership instead of continuing to display the previous owner’s registration plate.
According to officials, fake or altered number plates can make it difficult to identify vehicles involved in traffic violations or criminal activities. The traffic police said enforcement against such violations will continue to promote road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
