Harry Brook Credits Kevin Pietersen After Stunning T20I Century Against Sri Lanka

England white-ball captain Harry Brook has praised former England star Kevin Pietersen after producing a remarkable century against Sri Lanka in the opening T20 international in Southampton.
Brook smashed an unbeaten 114 off 49 balls, helping England secure a convincing 119-run victory at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday.
The innings came after Brook had watched highlights of Pietersen’s performances during the 2005 Ashes, with the former England captain now part of the national team setup as a specialist mentor.
Brook Looks Forward to Working With Pietersen
Pietersen has recently joined Brendon McCullum’s coaching staff to work with England’s limited-overs team ahead of next year’s 50-over World Cup in southern Africa.
Brook said Pietersen’s approach to batting is something he can relate to, particularly his willingness to put pressure on opposing bowlers.
Although the pair have had limited time together so far, Brook said he is eager to learn from the former England captain and make use of his experience.
Brook also highlighted Pietersen’s ability to target different areas of the field, which made him difficult for bowlers and captains to contain during his playing career.
Pietersen Can Help Brook in All Formats
The England captain said he hopes his relationship with Pietersen will benefit him beyond white-ball cricket.
Brook believes conversations with the former batter could also help him develop his game in Test cricket and have a positive influence on his career.
He described Pietersen as a player admired by many members of England’s current squad, saying the former star was someone they had grown up watching.
Brook Dominates Sri Lanka Attack
Brook’s century formed the centerpiece of England’s impressive batting performance.
He shared a 128-run second-wicket partnership with Jos Buttler, while also producing a spectacular fifth over against Dunith Wellalage.
Brook scored 30 runs from the over, hitting three sixes and three fours as England built a commanding total.
His unbeaten 114 came from just 49 deliveries, giving England a strong platform before the bowlers completed the job to seal a 119-run victory.
Ben Stokes Praises Brook’s Performance
Former England Test captain Ben Stokes was also impressed by Brook’s innings and shared his reaction on social media.
Stokes compared Brook’s natural ability favorably with that of Pietersen, describing the England batter as an exceptionally talented player.
Brook will now look to carry his form into the remainder of England’s T20I series against Sri Lanka as the team continues preparations for future white-ball commitments.
