India Edge Netherlands 3-2 in Thrilling FIH Pro League Encounter

India secured an impressive 3-2 victory over defending champions the Netherlands in a closely contested FIH Pro League 2025-26 match in Rotterdam on Sunday.

The win marked a strong performance by the Indian team, who showed composure in a fast-paced encounter against one of the world’s top-ranked sides.

Strong Start and Quick Response

India opened the scoring through Jugraj Singh in the 18th minute from a penalty corner. The Netherlands responded quickly, leveling the match soon after through Pepijn van der Heijden.

India regained the lead before halftime when Abhishek converted a well-placed pass from Jarmanpreet Singh to make it 2-1.

India Maintain Control Under Pressure

In the second half, both teams created multiple chances, with the Netherlands applying consistent pressure through penalty corners. However, India’s defensive structure held firm to maintain their narrow advantage.

The turning point came in the final quarter when Rajinder Singh scored from a penalty corner in the 56th minute to extend India’s lead to 3-1 after a sharp counter-attack created a penalty corner opportunity.

Late Fightback from Netherlands

The Netherlands reduced the deficit in the 59th minute through Koen Bijen following a penalty corner variation, setting up a tense finish.

Despite late pressure and multiple set-piece chances for the hosts, India’s defense remained disciplined to secure all three points.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, India continue their FIH Pro League campaign with improved momentum. They are now set to face Pakistan in their next fixture in London on Tuesday.
