India Issues Flood Alert to Pakistan Over Sutlej and Tawi Rivers

India has warned Pakistan of potential flooding in the Sutlej and Tawi rivers following heavy monsoon rains and the release of excess water from dams in northern India. The alert, communicated through India’s Ministry of External Affairs, highlights a high risk of water overflow reaching Pakistani territory by midweek.

The warning comes as Punjab in Pakistan is already facing severe flooding, with over 2.4 million people affected and at least 41 fatalities reported in the past week. Officials are urging residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas to stay alert, follow official guidance, and take necessary precautions.

Authorities in India confirmed that water levels in both rivers and their tributaries have risen significantly due to continuous rainfall in catchment areas. The Tawi River, which merges with the Sutlej after crossing into Pakistan, is also under close observation.

Pakistan’s disaster management teams are monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to ensure timely evacuation and relief efforts for affected communities.

Experts warn that the extreme monsoon conditions could worsen flooding in the coming days, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and safety measures.

Residents are advised to follow updates from official channels and avoid traveling near rivers or flood-prone zones until water levels stabilize.
