Indian University Faces Protests Over Alleged Assault Case

Students at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab, India, have staged protests following reports of an alleged sexual assault involving a female student and an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, according to Indian media reports.

The reported incident has led to demonstrations on the university campus, with students calling for an investigation and action against the person accused.

Classes and Exams Postponed

The protests reportedly escalated, with clashes, stone throwing and damage to vehicles reported on campus. Some students also blocked a nearby highway during the demonstrations.

Following the unrest, the university suspended academic activities for 10 days and postponed scheduled midterm examinations.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly showed students protesting near a display featuring an IAF fighter aircraft.

University Denies Report

University authorities have denied that a rape took place, while police have started an investigation into the reported incident.

The identity and alleged involvement of the IAF officer have not been publicly established through an official investigation. Reports also suggest that details surrounding the case remain unclear.

Amid the protests, university authorities advised students staying on campus to remain inside their hostels or residences and avoid unnecessary movement.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the allegations, while further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
