Islamabad Court Orders Production of Imran Khan in Judicial Complex Attack Case
ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has directed authorities to produce Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan at the next hearing of the Judicial Complex attack case.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the direction during Monday’s proceedings. The court ordered that Khan, who is currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail, be brought before the court either physically or through a video link.
The case relates to an incident in 2023 when Imran Khan appeared at the Judicial Complex in Islamabad in connection with bail proceedings in several cases.
A large number of PTI supporters had gathered outside the complex at the time. According to the prosecution, barriers were removed, the entrance of the complex was damaged and court proceedings were disrupted.
Following the incident, Islamabad Police registered a terrorism case at Ramna Police Station against several individuals. The charges included Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Section 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
During Monday’s hearing, the court also declared PTI leaders Farrukh Habib, Hammad Azhar, Murad Saeed and Shibli Faraz as proclaimed offenders. Authorities were directed to provide details of their properties.
The ATC also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former Punjab Assembly speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and PTI leader Hassan Niazi.
Imran Khan has remained incarcerated since August 2023 and is facing multiple legal cases. His party has repeatedly described several of the cases against him as politically motivated.
The court adjourned further proceedings until November 5, when Imran Khan is expected to be produced before the court either in person or through video link.
