Islamabad Starts Emergency Drainage Drive After Heavy Rain

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad district administration have launched an emergency drainage and dewatering operation following heavy rainfall that caused water to accumulate in several parts of the capital.

The operation began on Tuesday, with teams focusing on areas that are more vulnerable to waterlogging, including Sector E-11, Ghouri Town and other low-lying locations.

Officials have deployed dewatering equipment and special teams at underpasses, interchanges, major roads and other sensitive points. Crews are also clearing drains and waterways to improve the flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of further water accumulation.

Officials Inspect Affected Areas

CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, visited E-11, Ghouri Town and other affected areas to assess the drainage situation.

During the visits, officials reviewed ongoing dewatering work, traffic arrangements and emergency response measures.

Ashraf instructed relevant departments to make full use of available resources, continuously monitor vulnerable locations and ensure that accumulated rainwater is removed as quickly as possible.

Joint teams from the CDA, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Emergency and Disaster Management department and district administration are continuing field operations.

The administration has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and stay away from low-lying and waterlogged areas.

Officials said teams will continue monitoring vulnerable areas and responding to drainage-related issues as weather conditions develop.
