Karachi to Strengthen Action Against Vape, Tobacco, and Illegal Drug Sales Near Government Colleges

The Karachi administration has announced stricter enforcement measures against the sale of vapes, tobacco products, nicotine items, and illegal drugs near government colleges ahead of the new academic session.
The initiative aims to promote a safer learning environment for students returning to educational institutions across the city.
Monitoring Around Government Colleges
The Directorate of College Education Karachi has issued directives to deputy commissioners across all districts, instructing them to enhance monitoring of shops, cafés, and other commercial outlets located within a 50-meter radius of government colleges.
Authorities have been asked to ensure compliance with applicable laws and take action against the sale of prohibited products near educational institutions.
Regular Inspections Planned
According to the directive, assistant commissioners and other field officers will conduct regular inspections of businesses operating near government colleges.
The inspections will focus on preventing the sale of:
- Vapes and e-cigarettes
- Nicotine products
- Tobacco products
- Illegal drugs and other prohibited substances
Officials will monitor commercial areas to help ensure that regulations are being followed.
Measures Ahead of New Academic Session
The enforcement campaign comes ahead of the start of the new academic session on August 3, when thousands of first-year and second-year students are expected to return to government colleges across Karachi.
Authorities said the timing is intended to strengthen preventive measures before the beginning of the academic year.
Colleges Directed to Enforce Campus Rules
In addition to monitoring areas surrounding educational institutions, government college principals have been instructed to strictly enforce existing policies that prohibit:
- Smoking on campus
- Vaping within college premises
- Possession or use of illegal drugs
College administrations have also been advised to promptly report any suspected illegal activities to the relevant authorities.
Focus on Student Safety
Officials said the initiative is intended to support a healthier and safer educational environment by discouraging the availability of tobacco, nicotine products, and illegal substances around colleges.
The administration stated that the measures are aimed at protecting students and promoting awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco use, vaping, and substance abuse.
