Knicks Stage Stunning Comeback to Beat Cavaliers in Game 1
The New York Knicks pulled off an impressive comeback victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, erasing a 22-point deficit to secure a dramatic win on Tuesday night.
Point guard Jalen Brunson led the charge for New York, taking over in the fourth quarter with a series of key baskets in isolation situations against veteran guard James Harden.
Brunson was particularly effective down the stretch, scoring 15 points in the final quarter on efficient shooting as the Knicks mounted their comeback.
Cleveland coach Mike Brown admitted after the game that New York repeatedly targeted matchups involving Harden during crucial moments.
“There is no secret: we were attacking Harden,” Brown said, acknowledging the Knicks’ tactical approach in exploiting defensive mismatches.
Despite their strong start and large lead, the Cavaliers struggled to contain Brunson in isolation and could not regain control late in the game.
Harden said Brunson made difficult shots but emphasized that better team defense is needed to avoid leaving him in one-on-one situations.
The result gives the Knicks early momentum in the series, while the Cavaliers will look to respond in Game 2 after a disappointing collapse in a game they appeared to be controlling for most of the night.
