Kyrgyz Shipment Enters Pakistan via China Route for the First Time

Pakistan has received its first commercial shipment from Central Asia through a new trade corridor that passes via China, marking a significant development in regional trade connectivity.

New Transit Route Becomes Operational

The shipment from Kyrgyzstan arrived at the Sost Dry Port in Gilgit-Baltistan, using a newly activated trade route that bypasses Afghanistan.

The development comes at a time when trade through traditional transit routes has faced disruptions, prompting efforts to explore alternative corridors.

Route Through China

Under the new system, goods travel through China via the Khunjerab Pass, providing Central Asian countries with direct access to Pakistan’s ports, including Karachi.

This is the first time such shipments have reached Pakistan without relying on Afghan transit routes.

Regional Trade Connectivity

Officials said the corridor is expected to link several Central Asian countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, with Pakistan’s seaports.

The shipment was processed under a transit arrangement managed by a partner company of the National Logistics Cell, which described the route as a faster and more reliable option for regional trade.

Strategic Importance

Authorities say Pakistan is working to strengthen its role as a transit hub for landlocked Central Asian economies by improving infrastructure and expanding trade routes.

The new corridor is expected to enhance regional connectivity and support long-term economic cooperation between Pakistan and Central Asia.
