Several Injured in Train Collision Near Copenhagen
Several people were injured after two trains collided head-on near Copenhagen on Thursday morning, according to local authorities and media reports.
Casualties and Emergency Response
Reports suggest that around 17 people were injured, with four in critical condition. The accident occurred near Gribskov, approximately 40 kilometers north of the capital.
Police described the incident as a “serious accident.” A spokesperson confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated from the trains following the collision.
Rescue Operations Underway
Emergency services responded quickly and deployed significant resources to the scene. Several injured individuals were transported to hospitals, with some airlifted by helicopter for urgent medical care.
Authorities sealed off the area as rescue operations continued. Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the front sections of both trains. The collision took place between the towns of Hillerod and Kagerup.
Officials React
Local mayor Trine Egetved expressed concern over the incident, noting that the railway line is widely used by residents, workers, and students. She added that authorities are working to assess the situation and ensure all affected individuals receive proper assistance.
Safety Context
Denmark is generally known for strong railway safety standards, though similar incidents have occurred in the past. A 2019 train accident resulted in multiple fatalities, while another incident last year involving a train and a vehicle also caused casualties.
