Leeds United Crush Newcastle 4-1 to Move Third in Premier League

Leeds United produced an impressive display at Elland Road on Monday, defeating Newcastle United 4-1 to climb to third place in the Premier League standings.

The result also handed Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle his first defeat since taking charge of the club.

Leeds Take Control Early

Newcastle suffered an early setback when Nico Gonzalez was forced off within the opening 20 minutes and was replaced as a concussion substitute.

Leeds then opened the scoring when Lewis Miley inadvertently turned the ball into his own net after a shot from Ao Tanaka took two deflections before looping into the Newcastle goal.

The hosts quickly doubled their advantage. Dominic Calvert-Lewin challenged for a James Justin cross, with the ball taking a final touch off Jayden Bogle before finding the bottom corner. The goal was awarded to Bogle.

Calvert-Lewin Continues His Scoring Run

Calvert-Lewin soon got on the scoresheet himself, extending his remarkable scoring record at Elland Road.

The Leeds striker powered past Sven Botman before sending the ball underneath goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek to make it 3-0.

Newcastle struggled to regain control as Leeds continued to create opportunities.

Anton Stach came close to adding another goal early in the second half after capitalising on a poor pass from Hornicek, but his effort went narrowly wide.

Okafor Adds Fourth Goal

Leeds eventually completed the rout before the hour mark.

Noah Okafor volleyed home from the edge of the penalty area after Newcastle failed to clear a long throw, putting Leeds 4-0 ahead.

Newcastle managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time through Bazoumana Toure, but the late effort could not change the outcome.

Leeds Move Into Third Place

The victory lifted Leeds to third in the Premier League with eight points. Only defending champions Arsenal and Manchester City are above them in the early standings.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke praised his team’s energy, organisation and overall performance after the match.

Newcastle remain on five points but dropped to 12th position because of their inferior goal difference.
